Initiative + Influence

Leadership is influence, and we all influence the environment with our presence.

Every living person has leadership and influence ability.  Good leadership creates a progressive environment, and the most valuable gift a leader can give is to be a good example.  Leadership in action is the best way to create influence, and the art of asking questions is a great approach to achieving self-reflection.

Each month, Aiken Bella Magazine will publish “Influence Information”, a leadership column that will connect to the Aiken Character Trait of the month.  Leadership information, questions, and recognition for individuals and organizations that exhibit leadership are examples of the featured characteristics to be shared each month through Influence Information.

The Aiken Character Trait of the Month for October is Initiative.

A person with initiative can assess things independently and take the opportunity or power to act or take charge before others.  When we are reactive, something else has to happen before we are motivated to act. This month, we encourage you to take the initiative and act. What is something you have wanted or needed to do, but haven’t completed yet?  Where in your life do you need to take the initiative?  What is stopping you from accomplishing the objective?  What can you do to work around the barrier?  Action without vision is just passing time, vision without action is merely day-dreaming, but vision with action can change the world.  A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step, and it can be one day, or day one. Initiative requires the desire to act.  You have the choice and power to create, and I have faith in your ability to make it happen.  Have a great day, a better week, and an amazing month!

Horses Past and Horses Remembered

Wishing There Were More I have always loved animals.  Always. The household in which I grew up was pet friendly, barely.  Mom kept parakeets, but not for long. Most escaped through the kitchen window after serving a brief sentence of confinement in a toy-less cage in the pantry off the kitchen.  Dad kept tropical fish. That hobby was short-lived when he decorated the tank with rocks he had brought home after a vacation to Yellowstone National Park. I highly recommend the trip.  However, placing the mineral-laden, but beautiful, rocks in the tank with your tropical fish is not conducive to fish longevity. The left-over tropical fish food was sold at

Aiken’s Character Initiative Enthusiasm

The Aiken Characteristic of the month for March is Enthusiasm. Google defines enthusiasm as an intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval. It is a feeling of energetic interest in a particular subject or activity and a desire to be involved in it. It means having an active and motivated attitude instead of a passive one. Who chooses your attitude? Being enthusiastic is a choice, and your enthusiasm can motivate others to achieve their goals and objectives. I think enthusiasm is good for health and can add to the quality of life. Being enthusiastic about yourself, even about your negative experiences, obstacles, struggles, and encounters, can change the vibration and

Bella Fella | Reboot: A Mike Thomas Story

The man enters the theater. Alone. Just like always. Soles smack on the sticky floor. Heavy ghosts of buttered popcorn haunt the aisles. He sits in the back corner. Just like always. It takes a certain moxie to go the movies alone. And our guy is chock-full of it. The theater is his place to be alone. It is his sanctuary — his refuge. In the dark of the theater, he is anonymous. The lights dim, and the first preview begins. The first image we see is a young man in a suit and tie. He’s wearing a name tag for a company called Global Spectrum. He’s meeting with another

Aiken’s Character Initiative | Tolerance

The Aiken Characteristic of the Month for February is tolerance. What is tolerance? Why is important? Why would a person want to exhibit tolerance in his or her actions? Tolerance is the ability or willingness to accept opinions or behaviors that are different from your own and that you may not necessarily like or agree. Why is it important? There is no one person who is 100% exactly like anyone else. We all live our lives through our own eyes, and no one else has witnessed life through our eyes. We all have different perceptions, thoughts, beliefs, habits, and experiences. We are all connected, and we can relate and share
